I fully planned on keeping this space as a pop culture free zone. But I also feel the need to share great music when I stumble upon it. So apologies for the pop culture zone infraction.

I’m a twitter nut. I’m 100% honest with people about it. Like many tweeters, I follow some ‘celebrities’. Most of them are associated with Grey’s Anatomy or its sister show Private Practice. In the last few weeks they’ve been posting info about an solo project the frontman (Rob Giles) of The Rescues has been working on.

Being curious I opened iTunes and took a listen. Instantly I was hooked.┬áStarting with “Keep Calm Carry On” ‘s upbeat tempo I was pleased with the progression through each track. Worth a purchase.

When We Were Happy by Rob Giles is a fantastic album. It’s a balance between fast-tempo pop and coffee house mellow tunes. I think my favourite song changes on each listen, especially as your ears pick up a new melody each time. Starting with “Keep Calm Carry On” ‘s upbeat tempo I was pleased with the progression through each track. Worth a purchase.

Definitely worth a listen if you’re looking for something organic and fresh.

Valentine’s Day

Only three days late to comment on the so called day of Love. Valentines’ Day. Every February 14th we’re expected to shower our loved ones with candy, gifts and confess our love.

Instead of just doing this one day a year, I’ve opted to do it more often. Every day if I can handle it.

Also, this year finds me single again. So the only person who could shower me in love was myself. So I did. I resumed my normal exercise routine which always leaves me with a healthier heart and a bounce in my step. I’d been craving chocolate, seeing all the commercials and store displays. So instead of giving in, I made a pan of brownies. They are lasting much longer than the small bag of chocolates from the store would have. Also, it helps eating in moderation. Instead of eating the entire bag of chocolate, I’ll have 1 brownie.

Despite being reminded constantly that I was “alone” on Valentine’s Day, I felt better knowing that some self-love goes a long way.

So next year when you’re showering your loved ones in love, don’t forget to include yourself in the process. You’re just as worth it as your partner.

Groundhog’s Day

Hello Wiarton Willie.

Welcome back! It’s been a year since we’ve seen you last. What have you been up to?

Just sleeping you say. That’s too bad we woke you this morning to find out when winter is coming. You could have enjoyed a solid month of sleep. But don’t worry, February is an extra day long this year so make sure you sleep through the Leap Year.

Whether you saw your shadow or not, just means that winter is still happening and it’ll go as long as it needs to. Plus this year, I’d argue that winter has barely begun.

Thanks for trying to forecast the future weather for us. Between you and our weather experts, someone’s always wrong.

Till next year,

You want the next new thing? Make sure your website is up to code first

Social media. That’s the new buzz word, the new ‘must have’. But is it really a must have? Is it more important than a well-constructed, user friendly website?

Absolutely not! If you want to have a social media account with each of the major players, that’s fine, but make sure you’ve got a decent website up and running.

The most annoying thing to me is after I click on a link from a social media page is something that leads to their website which is horribly laid out and not user-friendly. Or worst, the link doesn’t have to do with anything that their account said it was.

So next you’re working on your website, make sure it’s worth looking at. Well laid out and user friendly will cover so much more ground than just having the new ‘must have’.
